Literature
Through my study of French literature, I have broadened my worldview and built bridges to other cultures. I believe that literature is a critical tool to create a more accepting society and cultivate effective, empathic public leaders.

Regards de promeneurs « étrangers » sur la construction d'une capitale cosmopolite entre la Régence et la Révolution
Written in French, this honors thesis considers the transition to modernity of 18th-century Paris, from the Regency to the French Revolution. Utilizing both historical and literary approaches and feminist and postcolonial perspectives, the thesis discovers a cosmopolitan capital flourishing even as the Ancien Régime comes to an end.
Abstract (French)
Bien que les origines de Paris datent de l’époque gallo-romaine, c’est au XIXe siècle que la capitale française est devenue la ville moderne à laquelle elle ressemble aujourd’hui — mais c’est le siècle précédent qui a préparé la capitale à son grand saut vers la modernité. Ce mémoire étudie les transformations de Paris au XVIIIe siècle par le biais de l’histoire et de la littérature. Grâce aux réformes de la Régence et à l’aménagement urbain, la ville a accueilli une pratique de la promenade individualisée. La lecture des Lettres persanes et de ses variations révèle la façon dont les visiteurs « étrangers » tout comme les écrivains français ont pu profiter de cette évolution urbaine. Par ailleurs, la présence des femmes et de la francophonie au cœur même de Paris souligne l’importance des perspectives féministe et postcoloniale dans la littérature du XVIIIe siècle.
During my junior year I founded a French literary review, mot pour mot, to provide a space for students taking French at Brown to share their writing and photography. I served as editor-in-chief for the review's first three issues, coordinating submissions, editing, design and layout. Since my graduation from Brown, students in the French Studies department have continued to publish mot pour mot, releasing the seventh edition in fall 2020.
I also have experience as a translator. My translation of French writer Philippe Delerm's piece « J'ai fait cinq ans de piano », "I Took Five Years of Piano," appears in the Spring 2014 issue of Aldus, a Journal of Translation. If you would like a copy of the translation, please contact me.
